Me gustaría oír vuestras ideas.

Don't we all love breakfast? And if it's in bed, better yet! It's the most important moment of the day, even if we're in a hurry, it's a MUST. But not everybody knows that, and some people just grab whatever and go. That's OK too, but what it is you grab, is as important as where you need to go get to in the morning.
I'll admit, I guess because of my American side, I've always sat down to have breakfast (mom makes the best!), giving this meal the importance it deserves, and this is why it's my favorite moment of the day and I love to play around with what I eat, to avoid getting bored.
For those kind of days when we have all the time in the world to slowly wake up, I love making French Toast, this is my version of it and some other ideas.

Light "French Toast".
We mix some milk, cinnamon and an egg (I normally just use the egg white) in a bowl. We dip the whole wheat bread in the mix and put it in a skillet with some olive oil. Cook 'til brown and ready to eat. You can add honey, syrup, strawberries... anything you feel like.

Peanut Butter and Toast.

Instead of dousing a whole-grain or bran toaster waffle in syrup, cut the sugar and boost the protein and fiber by spreading it with 2 tablespoons of peanut butter. You can also sprinkle on 1 tablespoon of raisins, sesame seeds, or extra peanuts for even more fiber, which helps deliver the meal's nutrients slowly and steadily.

Oatmeal.
I just love oatmeal, specially in winter, the classical with just warm milk is great, but i like to give is some flavor. How? Add some diced apples and cinnamon while you are heating your oatmeal, it's perfection. Another idea? Blueberries and honey! Blueberries go with everything so well.

Cereal Sundae.

A bowl of fiber-rich bran flakes (about 1½ cups) with 8 ounces of low-fat milk is nearly the perfect breakfast. Make it portable by replacing the milk with lemon or vanilla yogurt and mixing it in a to-go container. Increase the fiber and vitamins by adding ¼ cup of nuts or fresh or dried fruit, such as chopped pecans or blueberries.

Juices are another way to go.
Here is one of my favorites:

  • 1 1/4 cups orange juice
  • 1 medium banana
  • 1 cup blueberries, blackberries or raspberries
  • 2 ice cubes, crushed
Lovely and it has about 135 calories and plenty of vitamin C, perfect for starting the day.

Try to mix it up a little! Then we have brunch... but that's a whole different story (and blog post).

What's your favorite way of starting the day? Tea of coffee? I would love to hear your ideas!
